HRES Presents a Virtual Workshop
Changes in Passive Solar Construction
A Virtual Journey From Wolfe One to Today

THE PRESENTATION
In this presentation led by past HRES president Craig Wolfe, we will examine the elements of passive solar and energy efficient construction that have survived the tests of time, and those that have been improved over time. A large part of our presentation will examine the beginnings of Craig's energy journey and the construction of what he fondly calls Wolfe One.
Craig began his journey in 1978 when he was a philosophical musician. He had begun building his own passive solar log home when, half way through construction, two major events occurred. His beloved band Amdahl Wolfe band broke up, and the builder of his home became unreliable. So he took over the contracting of his home, which led to an 11 year run of building nearly 60 passive solar/super insulated homes. As Craig puts it, “I began a new career before I knew I needed one.”

We will be examining what Craig learned in the process of building his Wolfe One home, as well as what he discovered through his trial and error and research with the construction of his super insulated homes in the years that followed. Time and the innovation of others in the next decades will be discussed as Craig will be joined by others on the HRES board. We will describe the construction techniques for today’s ideal passive solar/super insulated home, including the home’s shell, air quality control, and best use of the sun’s energy.
Please join us for this interesting stroll down memory lane right up to what we know today.
